Our Story

It all started with a CrossFit gym and imperfect timing.

Deb and Adam met at a gym in San Francisco during the pandemic, but at the time, one of them was taken. But when the timing was right, Adam made his move. Little did he know, he’d have to win over Deb’s puppy, Miles, first. It was tough, but they figured it out.

Adam and Deb spent the next couple years building their life together in San Francisco. They camped along the coast, had dinners around the city, took trips across the world, and of course, spent plenty of time working out together.

Eventually, they decided to make a move to Marin, mostly to give Miles more space, but also to be closer to nature and try something new. Miles discovered his favorite place in the world—the trails around Mt. Tam. They were seconded only by the beach, which was equally beloved by a certain Brazilian member of the family.

Not too long after, Deb decided it was time for Adam to meet her family. They traveled to Brazil together, where Adam met the Carvalhos and ate way too much pão de queijo. While they were there, Adam and Deb celebrated New Year’s in Rio de Janeiro. It was one of the craziest trips of their lives.

Once they were back home, their new lives kept developing. Adam started a business, and before long, it became something they both worked on together. They found an incredible group of friends in Marin, and Deb continued to crush souls in fitness competitions.

In late 2024, the two of them traveled to Kauai, where Adam probably should have proposed. They happened to spend a night at the 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay on that trip, which seeded the venue they’d eventually choose to bring all of you together.

Not long after Kauai, they bought a house, another step towards building a life together. In a fitting bit of timing, Adam was back in Hawaii at the 1 Hotel with friends when they found out their offer had been accepted on the house of their dreams.

Adam finally proposed to Deb in Thailand, far from where it all started, but exactly where it was meant to happen. It was the best night of both of their lives.

And that brings us to now. We’re so excited to bring everyone we love together in a place that has become so important to us. We can’t wait to celebrate with you.

Travel

Never been to Hawaii before? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered!

Hawaii is made up of several islands, each with its own personality. Kaua'i is one of the smaller, quieter ones, known for dramatic mountains, lush coastline, and a slower pace than Oʻahu or Maui.

Flying

You’ll be flying to the island of Kauaʻi. Book your flight into Lihue Airport, the only commercial airport on the island, located on Kauaʻi’s southeast side.

Once you’re on the island

It’s a 45-minute drive from the airport on the southeast side of the island to the north shore, where Hanalei is. The drive is beautiful and straightforward, and it’s fun to take it slow, stop along the way, and grab poke or coffee. You’ll either need to rent a car at the airport, arrange for a driver to take you north, or coordinate a ride with friends.

Once you’re on the north shore, you’ll likely want access to a rental car so you can explore beaches, hikes, restaurants, and the rest of the island at your own pace. Ubers and taxis are limited, so plan accordingly.

Accommodations

For the easiest wedding weekend, we recommend staying in Princeville, where the wedding venue is located.

Hanalei is also a great option if you don’t mind a slightly longer drive. It gives you quick access to a very cute downtown with more restaurants, shops, and places to wander. For the sake of simplicity, we’re keeping all the recommendations below within Princeville.

If you’re turning the trip into a longer Kauaʻi stay, we recommend spending some time on the south shore too. Splitting your time between the north and south is a great way to see more of the island.

1 Hotel Hanalei Bay (the venue)

The 1 Hotel is the simplest option for the weekend, with the ceremony, reception, and everything in between just steps away. For guests interested, we’ve secured a room block with discounts that range from 15-40% off. For a better discount, book earlier.

Things to Do

We love Kauai, and the north shore in particular. If you’ve never visited Hawaii before, you’re about to have the best possible experience.

Nāpali Coast

North Shore

Take it in by boat, helicopter, or trail. The cliffs are one of the most iconic views on Kauaʻi, with waterfalls, sea caves, and unreal coastline the whole way.

Waimea Canyon

West Side

Often called the Grand Canyon of the Pacific, this is a great day trip for overlooks, winding roads, and a totally different side of the island.

Hanalei Bay beach

North Shore

A long, beautiful crescent of sand backed by mountains. It’s easy, relaxed, and perfect for a swim, a walk, or jumping off the pier into the water.

Tunnels Beach

North Shore

A north shore favorite with clear water, reef views, and a dramatic mountain backdrop. It’s a beautiful place for a beach morning, snorkeling when conditions are calm, or just taking in the coastline.

Wailua River kayaking

East Side

Paddle through one of Kauaʻi’s most lush inland areas. Many tours pair kayaking with a short hike, making it a nice active day without needing to plan much.

Poʻipū Beach

South Shore

A sunny south shore classic with swimming, snorkeling, and plenty nearby for lunch or a longer wander. You might even spot sea turtles and monk seals resting on the sand.

Hanalei town

North Shore

Food trucks, shops, coffee, markets, and an easy small-town pace. It’s the place to wander when you want lunch, snacks, gifts, or a low-key afternoon.

The Dolphin Fish Market

North Shore

A north shore favorite for fresh fish, sushi rolls, and easy takeout after the beach. You’ve got to try the poke, and the fish sandwich has become one of Adam’s full-blown Kauaʻi obsessions.

Old Kōloa Town

South Shore

A historic south shore stop with plantation-era storefronts, local shops, snacks, and an easy place to wander before or after time around Poʻipū.

Gifts

Your presence is the present! We know a destination wedding is a lot, and we’ll be happy just seeing and celebrating with you.

That said, if you’d like to give a gift, we’ve got two things you can contribute to: help us furnish our new house or contribute to our honeymoon.

It’s that simple.
